The National TOD Database is a comprehensive resource developed by the Center for Transit-Oriented Development. It is designed to assist planners, developers, government officials, and academics by providing crucial economic and demographic information related to transit-oriented development. The database covers every existing and proposed fixed guideway transit station across the United States.
As of December 2011, the database included 4,417 existing stations and 1,583 proposed stations within 54 metropolitan areas. Data is organized at three distinct geographic levels: the transit zone (a 1/2 or 1/4 mile buffer around individual stations), the transit shed (an aggregation of transit zones), and the transit region (aligned with Metropolitan Statistical Area boundaries).
The database features nearly 70,000 variables derived from nationally available datasets. These sources include the 2000 and 2010 Decennial Census, the 2009 American Community Survey, the 2000 Census Transportation Planning Package, and the 2002-2009 Local Employment Dynamics. Initially funded by HUD in 2004, the project currently receives funding from the Federal Transit Administration.
