SNAP

The Sentinel Application Platform (SNAP) provides a unified architecture for all Sentinel Toolboxes, enabling efficient processing and analysis of Earth Observation data. It leverages technological innovations such as a modular rich client platform, generic EO data abstraction, and a graph processing framework. This platform is designed for extensibility and portability, facilitating advanced geospatial data manipulation.

The Sentinel Application Platform (SNAP) is a robust common architecture developed by Brockmann Consult, SkyWatch, and C-S for all Sentinel Toolboxes. It is specifically engineered for Earth Observation (EO) processing and analysis, incorporating several key technological innovations.

SNAP offers a suite of powerful features, including very fast image display and navigation for giga-pixel images, advanced layer management supporting WMS servers and ESRI shapefiles, and rich region-of-interest definitions for statistics and plots. Users can create custom processing chains using its Graph Processing Framework (GPF), perform flexible band arithmetic, and execute accurate reprojection and ortho-rectification to common map projections. Geo-coding and rectification are supported using ground control points, alongside automatic SRTM DEM download and tile selection.

The platform integrates various technologies, such as the NetBeans platform for its desktop application framework, GeoTools for geospatial libraries, and GDAL for reading and writing raster and vector geospatial data formats. These integrations ensure a powerful and versatile environment for remote sensing data processing.
