Mapbox Tippecanoe

Tippecanoe is a powerful command-line tool designed to build vector tilesets from extensive collections of GeoJSON, Geobuf, or CSV features. It enables the creation of detailed and performant maps from diverse data sources. An active fork of this project is maintained at felt/tippecanoe.

Mapbox has also introduced the Mapbox Tiling Service (MTS), a hosted data processing service for creating vector tilesets. MTS integrates custom datasets of any scale into maps with greater speed, cost-efficiency, and control. This service leverages distributed and parallelized processing, significantly reducing data processing times compared to traditional single-server setups.

MTS is the same technology used internally for Mapbox Streets, serving a vast user base. It can process global basemaps at high precision in a fraction of the time a comparable workload would take on a single server. Customers benefit from faster application development, more engaging user experiences, and quicker data updates, sometimes up to 90% faster than previous tools.
