The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) has launched a new Halifax Data, Mapping & Analytics Hub, which users are encouraged to visit to explore new features and datasets. This existing catalogue serves as an open data portal for the municipality's geospatial information.
As part of the Halifax Regional Municipality’s commitment to improving citizen engagement and enhancing transparency, the municipality provides public access to its data. This Open Data initiative is a permanent service, allowing citizens and businesses to access data free of charge in machine-readable formats. Data can be explored across categories such as Boundaries & Topo, Community Protection, Culture & Society, Environment, Finance & City Government, Infrastructure & Asset Management, Parks & Recreation, Planning & Development, and Transportation & Transit.
Recent updates, as of February 15, 2023, include a new dataset for Transit Shelters. Additionally, several existing datasets have been modified, including PPL&C Building Permits, PPL&C Construction Permits, PPL&C Engineer Permits, and PPL&C Land Use Approvals Permits. These modifications involve renaming, making additional permit statuses available, and adding a new field to indicate whether associated Property Identification Numbers (PIDs) are inactive or active.
