Global 1-km Consensus Land Cover

This resource provides global, remote-sensing supported environmental layers at 1-km resolution for assessing status and trends in biodiversity, ecosystems, and climate. It offers two versions of consensus land-cover datasets, integrating multiple satellite products.

The Global 1-km Consensus Land Cover provides comprehensive environmental layers derived from remote sensing, designed for biodiversity, ecosystem, and climate modeling. This dataset is a consensus product, integrating information from several prominent land-cover products including GlobCover (2005-06; v2.2), MODIS land-cover product (MCD12Q1; v051), GLC2000 (global product; v1.1), and DISCover (GLCC; v2).

Two versions are available: a full version incorporating all four source products and a reduced version using the first three. Each dataset consists of 12 data layers, with each layer representing the consensus prevalence (0-100%) of a specific land-cover class. These layers span a global extent from 90ºN - 56ºS and 180ºW - 180ºE, featuring a spatial resolution of 30 arc-seconds per pixel (approximately 1 km at the equator).

Data layers are provided in GeoTIFF format and are available for download individually for each land-cover class. Classes include various tree types, shrubs, herbaceous vegetation, cultivated areas, urban spaces, water, snow/ice, and barren land. This resource is valuable for researchers and modelers requiring detailed, harmonized global land-cover information.
